Join us in making an impact in our community
The Sumter Family YMCA works with our neighbors to ensure everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, regardless of ability to pay.
We work hard each and every day to make a difference in the lives of our community members through YMCA programs that impact our area’s youth, families and older adults.
The needs of our community are diverse and evolving, and the Y is needed now more than ever. Together, we strive to create a stronger community and bring about meaningful change in our community. Your support is vital to our success, and enables us to be an essential component of the lives of so many in our area.
Ready to make an impact? Our Annual Campaign, Capital Campaign and Heritage Club are great ways to make a lasting mark on our community!
Annual Campaign
STRONG COMMUNITIES THRIVE TOGETHER
The Y is for all. We make sure that everyone, no matter their age, gender, race or ability, is welcomed as part of the Y family.
We offer financial assistance to local individuals and families who cannot afford the benefits of Y programming and membership… at the Y, no one is turned away due to their inability to pay.
Every dollar you donate to the Annual Campaign affects all of us in the best possible way: through after school care, swim lessons, health & wellness, diabetes prevention, summer camps, teen leadership, family activities, child care, youth sports, senior social hours, and, of course, financial assistance that ensures our doors are always open for everyone, including those most in need.
100% of your donation directly supports financial assistance and program subsidies for your friends, neighbors and members of the Y community. Thank you for joining a cause bigger than yourself!

PRESERVING OUR LEGACY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The YMCA of Sumter has a proud legacy of making our community better by improving the quality of life for ALL. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every child and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.
Our recent facilities assessment conducted in March 2024 revealed that the upper and lower gymnasiums as well as the indoor track, built in 1971, requires substantial maintenance. While we are able to complete the upper gymnasium renovations, we need your support in order to complete this project:
Total Projected Need: $300,000
LOWER GYM:
Walls: scrape, seal and paint walls
Goals: Install 2 new ceiling suspended forward folding backstops with electric height adjusters, install 6 tempered glass backboards on side courts with electric height adjusters
Floors: Repair damaged areas, screen and coat the basketball floor
New wall pads
LED lighting
INDOOR TRACK:
Replace subfloor to create flat surface
Install rubberized flooring
Fresh paint on walls
WAYS TO GIVE – Donations must be received by December 31, 2026
There are a variety of ways to make a gift. Some forms of giving may provide a tax advantage. Any of the following forms or combination of forms may be selected:
Cash: Cash contributions allow the donor to receive the tax benefits of a gift in the year it is made. Outright contributions of cash are the most direct way of providing support.
Pledges: The majority of commitments are made as pledges that can be paid over as many as 2 years. Pledges are preferable and are the most popular form of commitment as they allow best management of gifts.
Gifts of Securities: Gifts of appreciated securities or other marketable assets are welcome. A gift of appreciated securities from a publicly traded company may provide significant tax advantages when compared to gifts of cash. The donor may deduct the current “fair market” value of the donated securities as a charitable gift and be exempt from the capital gains tax on the appreciation. Unless by other arrangement, marketable assets will be liquidated to provide the most immediate benefit of your gift.
All gifts of $1,000 and above will be recognized on the permanent campaign plaque display.
NAMING OPPORTUNITIES
Together, we can leave a legacy for future generations, just as community members of the past made our current facilities possible. Consider donating in honor or memory of someone special. We are growing stronger together, by giving today, for tomorrow.
Elevate your impact and leave a legacy by participating in our exclusive Naming Opportunities. Your name, your legacy – a beacon of strength and unity for generations to come. Several naming opportunities are available for the upper gym, lower gym and indoor track, as well as other areas in the facility. Please contact Missy Corrigan or visit our website for more information.
By making a donation to the Sumter Family YMCA Capital Campaign, you’re not just contributing to a building; you’re investing in the well-being of families, the growth of young minds, and the strength of our community. Every dollar brings us one step closer to our goals, ensuring that we can provide essential resources and life-enriching programs to all.
