Group Exercise
One of the greatest benefits of being a YMCA member is the unlimited access to our diverse group exercise classes. Whether you’re into high-energy cardio sessions, calming yoga, or strength training, there’s something for everyone. Our certified instructors lead classes designed to accommodate all fitness levels, ensuring you feel welcomed and challenged. Not only do these classes promote physical health, but they also foster a sense of community and support among participants. Joining a group class is a fantastic way to stay motivated, make new friends, and enjoy a fun, engaging workout experience. With such a variety of options available, you’ll always find the perfect fit for your fitness goals and interests.
Personal Training
Whether you want to improve your overall health, increase your strength, train for a special event or just become more comfortable with using exercise equipment, personal training may be your answer. No matter your health or wellness goal, the YMCA’s personal training program can provide you the support and motivation you need to reach it.

Our partnership with Prisma Health and Prisma Health Tuomey goes beyond eliminating financial barriers to our health intervention and prevention classes—it extends the reach of these programs far beyond the walls of the YMCA. Through our evidence-based education and exercise programs, we bridge the gap between patients and physicians, offering support and empowering individuals to make informed choices for a healthier life. Fitness Center Orientation
Our fitness center offers a thorough orientation to help new members feel comfortable and confident as they begin their fitness journey. During the session, you’ll be introduced to our wide range of equipment, learn how to use cardio machines, and see demonstrations of proper technique and safety. You’ll also discover our variety of group classes, from yoga to high-intensity interval training. No matter your fitness level, our goal is to provide the knowledge and support you need to make the most of your workouts and achieve your health and wellness goals.
KickStart
Let us guide you in the right direction to achieve goals in your overall wellness. A coach will help you navigate the YMCA and review current programs offered. This program is offered at no cost to active members at the Sumter Family YMCA. Members must be at least 14 years old. Your Kick Start coach will:
· Take you on a tour of our YMCA
· Provide an individual consultation
· Assistance with signing up for Fitness Center Orientation and InBody Analysis
Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring
The simple process of checking and recording your blood pressure at least twice a month, over a period of four months, has been shown to lower blood pressure in some people with hypertension. Blood Pressure SelfMonitoring is an evidence-based program that features personalized support for developing a blood pressure self-monitoring routine, tips for maintaining cardiovascular health and nutrition education.
Enhance Fitness
Each class session includes cardiovascular, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises. Enhance®Fitness fosters strong social relationships with participants, and is geared toward adults with arthritis or those who are at increased risk for falls. Participants are provided chairs for support as well as dumbbells or wrist and ankle weights for strength training. They will never have to perform exercises that cause pain. Individual assessments are performed to track progress.
Healthy Weight &Your Child
Family – based approach for children diagnosed in the 95th percentile for BMI, or higher. Adult and child participate together, 2 hours twice per week, for 25 sessions. Fun, accessible physical activity games, and Family Huddle sessions for learning and preparing healthy lifestyle goals.
StrongHeart
This 12-WEEK program is designed for cardiovascular disease and stroke survivors, as well as for individuals who are at high risk. In partnership with Prisma Health Tuomey, the American Heart Association, and Palmetto Health USC Medical Group, the Sumter Family YMCA is offering an education based program to promote healthier hearts. The program will meet once a week for 60- minutes. This program strives to help improve each participant’s health while giving them the tools to be successful
StrongMind
Experience the transformative power of movement and mindfulness in a program designed to strengthen your mind, free your body, and empower your journey. Through an 8- week cohort or ongoing weekly classes, explore somatic movement therapy, mindfulness practices, and techniques to build emotional resilience. Whether you are looking to manage stress, navigating life transitions, or seeking connections, StrongMind is for you.
YFIT
In this 6-week lifestyle change program you will learn how to properly fuel your body to improve your health and fitness. The program empowers you with the knowledge and skills to create positive wellness by improving body composition and reducing health risks.
